What is Visdio?

Visdio is a visual video service offered by DEAF, Inc. to increase accessibility for those with hearing loss. It translates written and spoken English to American Sign Language (ASL). The service is very simple to use: A public venue would provide unique QR Codes next to their text description statements. The user would utilize their smartphone to scan the QR Code. The smartphone then reads the code and navigates to the intended destination, a video of an actor that is signing the text description.

Visdio was first developed in 2017 to address the need for full accessibility in public venues. ASL is the primary language for many Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals and achieving full communication access using Visdio is an avenue in bridging the gap between the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Hearing communities in public settings.

American Disability Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act, also known as the ADA, has been around for more than 30 years. The ADA, first implemented in 1990, was the United States’ government’s first step toward enforcing that the people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. As technology and culture evolved, so has the challenges faced by Americans with disabilities. Accessibility is not only a barrier in the physical world of a person with hearing loss, but also in the vast digital realm of web and interactive media. Many digital presentations, educational videos and ever-evolving exhibitions yet to remain fully accessible to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. You have the opportunity to be a catalyst for change by making your venue inclusive and accessible to all.

Museums and Public Venues

Have you considered whether your video, text or audio descriptions at your exhibitions or public events are accessible to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing?
