Dear Community Members,

On behalf of DEAF, Inc., I want to extend my deepest concern and compassion to all affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Protecting Our Employees

At DEAF, Inc. we are actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation and continue to take several proactive measures to help minimize health risks to our employees, their families, the communities we serve, and the greater public.

Here are the precautionary steps we have taken to date all through our organization:

  • DEAF, Inc. office is closed to the public, effective Monday, March 16, 2020, for at least one week.
  • Strong encouragement of increased social distancing, use of hand sanitizers, and frequent hand washing
  • Cancellation of all physical DEAF, Inc. programming, training/workshops, and events for the next 6-8 weeks, with future events under review, per CDC recommendations
  • Restricted non-essential travel, allowing it only for critical reasons
  • Mandatory 14-day self-quarantine for any employee exposed to COVID-19

Currently, there are no known or identified cases of COVID-19 infection within our employee base, and we will continue to monitor and be prepared to respond appropriately should there be any change in the status, health, or well-being of any of our employees.

Continuing Our Services to the Deaf Community

DEAF, Inc. will continue to ensure that our communities are provided with the services they need while protecting and reducing the risk of transmission of COVID-19.

We are taking precautions by moving our employees to remote work and have taken additional steps by canceling any physical events that are happening over the next few weeks and will be watching for any changes in the days and weeks ahead.

All of our Independent Contract Sign Language Interpreters will be carefully screened before being sent to an assignment.

While we work to maintain the highest levels of quality services possible to our deaf community, should we run into any limitations in our ability to provide support, we are committed to referring to other organizations that can.

What to Expect

While we understand that every nonprofit or business may not be affected in our region, we know that there could potentially be an outbreak. Although there is still a lot of fear and confusion throughout the country, we at DEAF, Inc. will continue to do our best to work and support our community.

Please watch for any updates from us as we continue to share information with you throughout the upcoming days and weeks.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 314-714-6400 or contact us via email at info@deafinc.org.
