DEAF Inc. provides workshops and classes based on the needs of specific groups, such as parents of deaf children, hearing employers, late-deafened, interpreters, etc. Often, when the needs are identified, it comes down to effective communication. Sometimes, there are workshops that are readily available to the "hearing" public, but they are not available to the deaf population because communication access is denied.
Does your business have deaf employees? Do you have deaf and hard of hearing patients, patrons or customers? Deaf family members? DEAF Inc. can work with you to develop a special training to improve effective communication within your business or home.
We strive to keep the fees for our workshops or classes to a minimum. Thanks to fundraisers and generous donations, we are able to offer some workshops or classes at no cost. If you would like to donate to help bring more classes or workshops at DEAF Inc., please visit our donation section: Donations.
If you have an idea for a workshop that you would like DEAF Inc. to host, please contact us.

HandSpeak
Once a month during the 11-week period, Deaf Inc hosts a “silent” event called HandSpeak. What is HandSpeak? HandSpeak was created to provide more opportunities for social interactions for young children, teenagers, beginning signers, interpreting students and late-deafened adults in a safe nurturing location. It is an informal social event where all of these people can talk together, share their experiences, and help each other learn to share their common language.

Fine Tuning Your Family:
Family Dynamics Training for Families with Deaf and Hard of Children
Saturday, March 3, 2012; 9 am to 12 pm; at DEAF Inc.
Hearing families with deaf or hard of hearing children can face unique challenges related to family dynamics and communication. Communication strategies, family constellations and roles, and family values all impact the way a family operates as a system. External pressures such as advocating for their deaf or hard of hearing children in education settings can add another level of stress to the family system. This workshop explores some simple but effective strategies for hearing parents with deaf or hard of hearing children to fine tune their family system.
