Position Description:

 

Provide Community-Based interpreting service for deaf, hard of hearing and hearing consumers. Community-based interpreting refers to interpreting in various settings such as community events, business meetings, medical settings, public, private, and state agencies, government entities, as well as educational institutions including colleges, universities, and schools.

 

 

Essential Functions :

 

         ◦ Provide sign language interpreting service between deaf and hard of hearing individuals and hearing consumers.

          ◦ Provide Sign-to-Voice and Voice-to-Sign interpreting/transliterating services in the community setting.

          ◦ Prepares for interpreting assignments by reviewing materials, and meeting briefly with the client before the

            assignment begins.

          ◦ Maintain strict consumer confidentiality and the utmost professional standards.

          ◦ Informs DEAF Inc. of matters of concern with regard to clients and interpreting situations.

          ◦ Refers consumers to DEAF Inc. for questions or concerns regarding accommodations and business practices.

 

Required Qualifications :

 

          ◦ MICS level 1-5 certification

          ◦ Completion of high school diploma or equivalent

          ◦ Completion of academic credit from a post-secondary institution

          ◦ Must have a good working knowledge of interpreter code of ethics.

          ◦ Strong understanding of Deaf culture.

          ◦ Good articulation and voicing skills.

          ◦ Ability to work well under pressure.

          ◦ Sensitivity to consumer needs.

 

Preferred Qualifications :

 

          ◦ MICS level 3-5 certification in interpreting and transliterating, RID CI, CT, or CSC certification

          ◦ Completion of an Interpreter Training Program

          ◦ Completion of a two or four-year undergraduate degree

          ◦ 3-5 years interpreting experience in a variety of settings.

 

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
